If you are a male, now is where you should STOP reading :)
I HATE my ovaries. They, like me, are crazy.
I don't know if you have heard of PCOS (Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome) but my ovaries sure have.
PCOS is a VERY annoying disease to have. It affects 5-10 % of women but since alot of women have it and do not know there is actually more than 10% of women who have it.
I was diagnosed 3 years ago after seeing many specialists. I thought I was going through early menopause. With PCOS your period can be very irregular or even absent (like in my case).
The #1 issue with PCOS is infertility. Clearly that, for some strange reason, was not an issue for me. We were told 2 years ago that if we wanted a 3rd baby I would need to go on fertility drugs. My gynecologist in Halifax told me I was not ovulating (at that point I had only had about 1 period a year since I had given birth to Jack 3 yrs prior). My ovaries were so full of cysts that apparently they could not release an egg. Soooo needless to say we were not "taking precautions." (You know the rest of the story ;)
Some PCOS SYMPTOMS include weight gain mostly around the abdomen (UGH) and it can be very hard to lose. Hirsutism (probably the most annoying one for me next to the weight issue) which is excess hair. For most PCOS sufferers, hair in the mustache and beard areas becomes heavier and darker. High levels of male hormones cause this symptom. Fatigue is another very common symptom as is mood swings, "brain fog"& depression.
It is not a fun thing to have and there really isn't a cure. Weight loss is supposed to really help with your symptoms as is the birth control pill. I am on month #2 of Tri-Cyclen and am praying this is a better month than last. I really don't think I was so emotional or moody when I was pregnant for any of the 3 boys!! Poor Prince Charming!!
